Welcome to the Staff Corral Unlike a lot of boys and girls camps today, Prude Ranch really is a ranch. It was established in 1898 as a cattle ranch. John Robert and Betty Prude organized the summer camp program in 1951. The program first included boys only, but in 1955 it became co-ed. The emphasis at Prude Ranch Summer Camp is on good, clean, fun filled, busy days and old-fashioned companionship through a tremendous variety of outdoor activities. Knowledge of camping in general is part of your job as a counselor. Kids come to camp to have fun, and at the same time, even though they are not aware of this, they will experience events that will endure a lifetime. You, in your counselor role, will share these experiences.
Why PRSC over other camps?? This is a reasonable question, considering that parents are entrusting their most valuable possession to the Prude Ranch Camp Family. There are many reasons, but one important factor is that parents want a camp which is not only going to teach their child the skills and fundamentals of outdoor activities and western fun, they also want one that stresses a sense of purpose. As a camp family, we rejoice with the campers in their victories, small or large, empathize with them in games unwon, a ball uncaught, or a barrel knocked over. You, as a member of our camp family, will be the one to whom the camper turns in times of crises and joy. You will be the one to help the camper put all of these moments in their proper perspective. We believe that parents want someone who has a reverence for a Being greater than their own. Someone who appreciates the world around them, and who will take the time to share that appreciation of such quiet things as a deer far off on the ridge, or a bird soaring above...or the uniqueness of each individual...the beauty of lifelong friends. We also believe that parents want someone who can fully appreciate their child. They want one who can realize that the camper may have faults, but that they are still very special, and they deserve the best in encouragement, effort, and environment. We are talking about our Prude Ranch Camp Family. As you can see, Prude Ranch prides itself in the quality of our counselors and staff. We admire your desire to be a leader and model for young folks. YOU ARE SPECIAL!! What it means to be a Counselor!! It Can’t be said any better than this There are Little Eyes Upon You They are Watching Night and Day There are Little Ears Taking in Every Word YOU Say There are Little Hands Eager to do Anything YOU Do And Little Fellows who are Dreaming Of the Day They’ll be like YOU You are the Little Fellow’s Idol You are the Wisest of the Wise In Their Little Minds, About YOU No Suspicions Ever Rise They Believe in YOU Devoutly And Hold to all YOU Say and Do When They are Grown They Will Be a Slight Mirror Image of YOU They are Wide-Eyed Little Fellows Who Believe YOU are Always Right And Their Ears are Always Open And They Watch YOU Day and Night YOU Set an Example in ALL YOU DO For the Little Fellows Who are Waiting To Grow Up, and Be Like YOU
